Enter the HVCC campus using Vandenburgh Ave and North Dr, turning into Lot F (highlighted in red). Unload students once parked. Students will walk to the front doors of the McDonough Sports Complex (MCD) via sidewalk to enter Career Jam (highlighted in blue). Buses will stay parked in Lot F for the duration of the event.  *Please note: this is a change from previous years*

At your designated departure time, students will exit out of the front doors and walk to Lot F using the connecting sidewalks. See student route in blue.

  

Once buses are loaded, turn left onto North Dr. and exit campus.

 

Please be patient with the Career Jam event staff throughout the day. Most of them are volunteers, and we all want to make this the best experience possible!

Before Career Jam - Educator Checklist

All participants will adhere to all laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, and requirements of HVCC, and any City, County, State, or Federal Government Agency, or any department or bureau thereof, having jurisdiction of the property.

 

  • Ensure media releases are obtained for all students, as media will be present at the event.

    • Bring a list of students who cannot be photographed. At check-in, Career Jam staff will provide neon yellow stickers for these students to wear.

 

  • Lunch: Lunch is not provided. Students should bring a bagged lunch if needed. A space will be provided to eat. 100+ students– carry lunches in your Career Jam bag. Less than 100 students—we recommend bringing lunches in a cooler on wheels or packing them in containers making it easier to transport them *upon arrival you’ll leave your lunches with a Career Jam volunteer to move to the designated lunch area*

 

  • Campus Tours: larger groups- please divide students into groups of 20-30 ahead of time
     

  • Dress appropriately: Students should wear comfortable, layered clothing, as they will be both indoors and outdoors.  Footwear: Closed-toe shoes are required.
     

  • Backpacks: NO backpacks are allowed in the venue. Please leave them on the bus. Students will receive a Career Jam™ drawstring bag upon arrival.
     

  • Show school spirit: Wear school colors!

On The Career Jam Exploration Floor - Teacher Tips

  • Let students explore: Give them the freedom to visit booths on their own while you circulate and monitor for safety.
     

  • Stay on schedule: Please keep to your allotted time.
     

  • Safety first: Walk please—no running.
     

  • Scavenger Hunt: Students should complete their Career Jam™ Scavenger Hunt Card & look for volunteers with orange collection bins to turn it in for a chance to win a custom pair of Nike sneakers!

After Career Jam - Keep The Momentum Going

  • Encourage students to talk with their guidance counselors and teachers about the booths and careers that sparked their interest.
     

  • Encourage students to share what they learned with their parents or guardians.
     

  • Encourage students to research local career opportunities and explore the education or training needed for the fields they’re excited about.
